This selection features works by artists and/or emerging collectives who have made their first explorations in image and sound. These works do not exceed 15 minutes in length. They are audiovisual explorations that challenge the limits of audiovisual language, interrogating, constructing, and questioning the image from a sound-based exploration. Six national and five international works are part of this curatorial selection.

Many things are happening at a child’s birthday party in Brazil. A young woman observes every element of the party carefully, from people to objects to food, everything seems to have a past, present and future of its own. She is clueless to the fact that there’s a universe somewhere where time is visible. Regardless of that, she can still perceive it somehow.

An eye-body that dreams passes through four stages or dreams, each steeped in a quasi-ontological symbolism of fragility and strength, permanence and transformation, eternity and finitude. In essence, a play of opposites unfolds, carried above all by the cyclical movement of figures and sounds that question, confront, and complement one another.

Celebration (world premiere)

A birthday celebration turns into a visual fable about the fragility of existence. A lively cake spins to the rhythm of its burning candle as festive joy fills the air. But the ephemeral gives way to the grotesque: once devoured, amorphous creatures emerge from its crumbs, embodying desire, guilt, and self-destruction. This short film seeks to explore the complex relationship we have with eating and gathering, portraying a cycle of creation and decay with tenderness and sensitivity.

Told in the form of a letter, Behind the Door Lies the Garden, is an auto-fictional story on death, reincarnation, and the loss of infancy, based on the aftermath of my father’s death. It is my silent memory of grief and the innocent belief that he could have returned in the form of our family cat. It is also my undergraduate thesis film from Parsons School of Design.

Lost in the middle of the immensity of the Sumapaz moor, lie the remains of what was once a prison that worked as a concentration camp. When night falls, ghosts trapped in an eternal cycle wake up. History and the latent past that inhabited it emanate from its walls like an archaeological exercise of searching in the ruins.
